A footballing legend…
Every now and again a footballer comes along who seems to transcend sport. Players with talent that other footballers can only dream of.
Ronaldo and Messi. Zidane and Figo. Cantona, Beckham and Carlton Palmer to name but a few. However, there have not been many English players that have had such mercurial talent and skill than Paul Gascoigne.
Gazza excited us, gave us hope and joy. He was a player who could do something special, scare the opposition. We hadn’t seen a player of his like too often before in England and we embraced him, loved him.
Like many people before him who have such talent, they also have to carry their demons with them. And sadly Gazza had a few. But, English football fans appreciate him for who he was and the magic that he brought with him when he pulled on his boots.
Injury and off-field issues meant that he maybe never reached the heights that he should’ve, but we remember the good times. He will always be a three lions legend! And so, for Day 12, we have our Christmas message from the man himself.
