I’m leaking…
The Grinch is a character that was created by Dr Seuss and appeared in a number of his poems before his best known incarnation, How the Grinch stole Christmas, in 1957.
In 1966 it was adapted into an animation, with Boris Karloff playing the role of both the Grinch and the narrator, and has been a festive favourite ever since. There have been a number of other versions over the years, but our favourite has to be How The Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey.
The Grinch, a former resident of Whoville, was shunned and mocked by many of the townsfolk for being different. Upset and angry, he left the town to revel in thoughts of revenge and living happily in muck, filth and misery.
Jim Carrey was born to play the Grinch and perfectly brings him to life. And the director, Ron Howard no less, creates a Whoville that is fantastical and true to the Dr Seuss story.
It’s funny, cheesy and, like all family films, it has just enough jokes that the adults will get that the children might not.
Most of all, it is Christmassy, with just the right amount of sentimentality that is required for all good festive films.
