Do They Know It’s Christmas?

It’s the start of a new working week (well, not for me as I’ve got a few days off) and we are less than three weeks away from the big day.

I’ve been wondering what to put behind the door for day five and thought that maybe I’d put a little note on about charity and how, as a nation, we are extremely generous and willing to offer support to those in need.

There are high profile campaigns such as Comic and Sport Relief, Children in Need and Stand Up for Cancer. We donate to numerous charities for a wide variety of causes; from supporting medical research, funding air ambulances and the RNLI, saving animals from neglect, stocking food banks and supporting countries many miles from us when disaster strikes. We are kind, compassionate and generous and as a nation we should be proud of ourselves.

When I first thought about raising some money last year, I didn’t realise how foodbanks had become such an important part in the lives of people in need of a little extra support. And, I didn’t realise just how many organisations worked locally to provide such an important service.

Local foodbanks are in most villages and towns around the country, and in Hayle, where I live, we have the Hayle Foodbank and Community Food Cupboards, to name just two. The fact that we need such organisations and community initiatives is extremely sad, but the fact that so many people are willing to help their community is a very special thing.

With the money that we raised last year we managed to put together around 50 hampers which we hope helped make Christmas a little easier for the people that received them. There are so many people that work throughout the year to provide help where it is needed most, they all need a big hand. Without the donations that we, and those foodbanks and organistions receive, the support offered just wouldn’t be possible.

It is the generosity of friends, family, colleagues, sponsors and local businesses that gives me and others the opportunity to help where we can. And, especially at this time of year, maybe raise a smile in tough times.

With the cost of living crisis as it is, money is tight for everyone and anything that you can donate to my fundraiser would be appreciated. You can click here to be directed to my JustGiving Page. I know that you may have your own charities that you support too, so understand if you are unable to donate any more, but sharing this post would also be a great help in spreading the word.

If you can’t donate cash, your local foodbank would appreciate any food that you can spare too, and many supermarkets have collection points where you can buy a little extra and drop it in as you’re heading home.

Now, with fundraising campaigns, you will often see a charity single being released. So, why not have to listen to one of them for Day 5! LadBaby beat Ed Sheeran and Elton John to last years Christmas Number 1, with all of the proceeds of this beauty going to the Trussell Trust. And, as a special treat, we also have the other Christmas Number 1’s from 2018, 2019 and 2020 aswel!

We would love to hear your Christmas memories, family traditions, favourite films and television shows, anything at all. Leave your messages or stories on our social media, or comment below, as we’d love to share them.

You can even send an email to goldstitch@agoldstitchchristmas.com.
